1 Corinthians 12:12 shows believers that we are more than just individual worshipers who gather on Sundays by teaching us, "all the members of the body are united in Christ]" (1 Cor 12:12). As such, we believe the local church is a group of believers who have publicly committed themselves to each other in faith, purpose, and mission to glorify God, encourage each other's growth in Christ, and take the gospel to our community by using our various gifts, experiences, and abilities in the Spirit's power.
Membership is important. #1, it's Biblical. Whether its the early church's records, the letters written to specific congregations in specific settings, or letters of recommendation as the believers moved from place to place, the overwhelming testimony of the Scriptures is that God designed believers to be publicly united to each other in fellowship. #2, It makes a public commitment to the other believers of our church. Its your way of saying, "I'm all in I want you to know I'm committed to you all. Let's serve Jesus together."
